Patinated Ponies
This is the place where I put my favorite photos that I've taken, and thoughts that I've... thought. Rarely will I reblog, but if a photo or quote is so inspiring, it may find its way on here.
"Patina" is my favorite word, and I, um, really like ponies. I might be five, I might be twenty.

Update
For one, I’ve been really busy. Happy hours, working out, and eating far too many snacks. But I’ve spent lots of time with friends, new and less-new, which is great. Because I was so afraid that being at home this summer would just be a repeat of other summers at home: lonely, and embarrassingly so. But I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to really get my ass in gear for OGI’s in August, let alone type up the occasional musing here. So here’s the skinny:
- I love my job. They have me writing a brief for the Ninth Circuit. And I feel like I’m going too slowly, but I’m getting words on the page. And I feel good about them. The people I work with are amazing. Smart, funny, and really committed to what they do. We’re not very good at softball, but that’s okay with me. So I love it. But that also worries me, because I was expecting this summer to make it clear to me that I want to be in a firm. It’s just made things muddier. I really could see myself working for the government. And that won’t support my pony habit. But I’ll be so much happier. My plan is losing some foundation, and that scares me. But it wasn’t a plan arranged during a happy time, so I might just have to let parts of it go.
- I’m having a hard time picking classes for next year. After grades this winter I was not a huge fan of law school. But I did better this semester, and I want to take way more classes than I can fit into my schedule. Which is always a good problem to have.
- I’m reading for fun. After quickly watching all of Dexter last month (which I absolutely loved), I’ve finally had time to get into a book that yet another Sarah put in my basket during one of our trips to the used bookstore - “The Tin Drum” by Gunter Grass. And I LOVE it. I’m not sure she knew how perfect this book is for me. Inventive narrator, holocaust, and family history. I’M IN LOVE. It’s beautiful (my copy is translated by Breon Mitchell). It’s my companion on the metro. When I’m not on the metro drunk and sleepy.
- My sister got back from Italy today. She unnerves me, and I’m pretty glad she’ll only be home for a couple weeks. But I’m going to try to be nice to her while she’s here. Now that I have my own life that will be easier to do.
